Swann’s Song

Andy CampbellOpening Up

“Swann’s Song” is a visual novel about an old man waiting for the a swan’s song. After a while, a boy reaches out and they start talking about the passage of time, grief, climate change and the way we deal with emotions and death. It’s a poetry/theatre hybrid that places focus on the player’s voice rather than giving a straight answer. The game is around an hour and features branching dialogues, though the ending is always the same. A key component to the game’s identity and themes is “Arabesque No.1” by Claude Debussy. The project features hand-painted impressionistic visuals done by a very talented painter.
