INFINITY SPIN

a project by Christiane Böhm & Vera Sebert

Infinity Spin is a virtual environment for 360° poetry, which is accessible by mobile phones. The application shows a line of text, which surrounds users like a panorama. Hereby the text line can never be seen as a whole but only in sections on the user’s displays and is revealed by rotating around oneself’s body axis. By reading the sentence, which is quoting itself according to the principle of a Mise en Abyme, the readers find themselves in an endless loop. The performative act of turning around includes the whole body as part of the process of reading and immediately transforms its interaction with the media apparatus and the text into a concrete physical experience.

A virtual exhibition format was developed especially for the presentation of the project as part of the New Media Writing Prize. Various 360° texts can be accessed via QR code scan (desktop) or as a direct link (mobile):
