Dr Bissie Anderson

Dr Bissie Anderson is an Assistant Professor in Digital Media and Communications at the University of Birmingham. She holds a PhD from the University of Stirling and has previously worked as a lecturer in journalism and media in Scotland and Wales. Her doctoral work (to be published as a monograph by Peter Lang in 2026) explored digital journalists’ storytelling and knowledge creation practices across the world. It received the 2024 AEJMC Participatory Journalism Dissertation Award and the Honourable Mention for the Outstanding Dissertation in Journalism Studies at the International Communication Association Conference (Gold Coast, 2024). Bissie is particularly interested in interactive/immersive journalism, novel forms of storytelling, and the intersection of journalism and design. Prior to academia, Bissie worked as a newspaper reporter and editor in Bulgaria and as a digital communications professional across Scotland.
